Pipe Major Liddell’s piping CV is second to none. He has won both Gold Medals, at the Argyllshire Gathering and the Northern Meeting, and recently led is own Invararay and District Pipe Band to victory in the World Championships. 49 year old Stuart has been piping since early childhood and back in the early 1990s began a regular conquest of medals and cups, three times named Young Piper of the Year in his early 20s. He went on to win the Silver Star, the Clasp and the Dunvegan Medal, before taking his first Gold Medal at the Nortnern Meeting in 2000. He went on to take the Donald Macdonald Quaich and to win the Oban Senior Piobaireachd on five occasions, recently winning that accolade for an unprecendented three years running, before winning the Glenfiddich Championship.
The society is proud to have him as our Honorary Piper, in which he is a worthy successor to some of the greatest pipers of the past, including Pipe Majors William Mackay, Willie Ross and John D Burgess. We congratulate him on this very well deserved recognition of his achievement in his art, for all he does for the cause of piping worldwide, and for his tuition and encouragement of young pipers.
