Short Report For Royal Celtic Society on 2024 Season

Feb 14, 2025

Innerleithen/Tweedvale Pipe Band is a community-based organisation operating from Innerleithen in the Scottish Borders. We are a registered Scottish charity, SC032804, and are also known as Tweedvale Pipe Band, mostly in the pipe band competition arena. The band was formed in 1923. For many years, the band performed almost exclusively at local festivals and gala days but in the mid-1980s the band started entering pipe band competitions and now our annual performance schedule includes a mix of both types of events. Most of our engagements are local to the Tweeddale area of the Scottish Borders but we travel all over Scotland to participate in pipe band competitions.

In 2024, thanks to the continuing support of the Royal Celtic Society, Innerleithen/Tweedvale Pipe Band played at 31 engagements and competed at 8 pipe band competitions including 4 major championships. We won the 2024 Scottish Championships in Grade 4A and won the overall Champion of Champions title in Grade 4A and were subsequently upgraded to Grade 3B for the 2025 competition season. We hold regular twice weekly practices throughout the year. The Band provides tuition to several learners at various stages of development on practice chanter, bagpipes, stick & pad, and drums. The Band had two notable firsts on the public performance front – playing to entertain the crowds at the Edinburgh Rugby v Munster match in May and performing for the local Church of Scotland congregation for their St Andrews Day service. Both performances went down a storm!
