The Royal Celtic Society’s donations to its annual beneficiaries have been distributed this week.
These include the Clan Macpherson Museum at Newtonmore, where the conservators have used the Society’s contributions over the years for new display cases, picture restoration and dehumidifying equipment for the protection of artefacts.
Annual events sponsored by the Society include the Glenfinnan Games, taking place on 17th August, and the North Uist Highland Games in Lochmaddy. At both the Argyllshire Gathering and the Northern Meeting the Society contributes to the prestigious Gold Medal, two of the most prestigious piping competitions in the world. The Argyllshire Gathering takes place in Oban on 22nd August, and the Northern Meeting in Inverness on 29th and 30th August.
Donations are also made to Fas Mor, the Gaelic medium nursery school at Sleat on the Isle of Skye and Taobh na Pairce, the Gaelic medium primary school in Edinburgh’s Bonnington Road, where we will award two cash prizes (to be spent on the school) for class work completed during the current term. These prizes will be presented by council member Lord Minginish QC at the end of term assembly on 27th June.
Pipe bands supported on an annual basis include the Kintyre Piping Society, Corbery Park Pipers and the Innerleithen Pipe Band.
