Music

The Bagpipes are probably the single most identifiable symbol of Scottish identity, but the oldest Highland musical instrument is the clarsach, or Celtic harp. The Royal Celtic Society is committed to the traditional music of Scotland in all its forms, most notably piping, clarsach, fiddle and song.

Most of the Society’s events will feature music in at least one of these forms. The Society supports Scottish traditional music by encouraging original composition, with a programme of annual grants to pipe bands and clarsach groups and by awarding medals at many of the leading competitive musical event
